David and Avshalom: Life and Death in the Forest of Angels
Tuesday, May 10   12:10-1:15 PM
JCC Room 150D
Free and open to the community

Bernard (Roy) Mann will talk about his forthcoming historic novel, David and Avshalom • Life and Death in the Forest of Angels. Mann weaves an exciting retelling of David's life and achievements, highly critical to Israel's survival. There's the fabled battle in which David slays Goliath, but other victories over are depicted: the friendship David cultivated with Phoenicia's Hiram, key to a never-broken peace in which Israel prospered and Solomon sailed merchant ships, David's selection of a woman (Judith) to write the "Book of the Beginnings" that in time evolved into Genesis and "Book of the Departure" (Exodus). Finally, David's climactic victorious battle over patricidally intent Avshalom in the Forest of Angels--the terrain where Genesis tells of angels descending and ascending Heaven's ladder. Presented by the Jewish Life and Learning Department in collaboration with the Senior Adult Department. Brown Bag lunch. Dairy or Vegetarian only. Beverages will be available.
