Jewish Scouting at Shalom Austin

JCC Girl Scouts Calendar of Events 2017-18 ( Download .PDF)

Jewish boys and girls as well as young adults in Austin experience adventure, learning, friendship, family and fun through local scouting programs.

There are four Girl Scout troops sponsored by Shalom Austin. We are recruiting families to build a Cub Scout Pack and Boy Scout troop.

We have troops and activities for kindergarten through high school. All troops and activities are non-denominational; we are primarily Jewish youth and we do many explicitly Jewish things, however no one is required to be Jewish to join or participate.

Scouts at every age are supported to:
-pursue traditional Scout badges, awards and ranks
-earn the religious award for each level from the National Jewish Committee on Scouting -attend and host Scout Shabbat
-observe shabbat, bake challah over a campfire, and keep kosher on campouts
-build a sukkah and provide games for the community at Sukkahfest
-hold troop fundraisers for the charity of their choice
-perform service projects for the Jewish community, such as handmade mezuzot for JFS and painted plot markers for the community garden. These can also serve as b’nai mitzvah projects and as IB projects for those youth in the Anderson vertical team.
