American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Ages 15 Yrs +  

The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course is to provide entry level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize
and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over. This class will certify the participant in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, Oxygen Administration, and Bloodborne Pathogen Training. The Lifeguard, First Aid, CPR-PR, and Oxygen Administration are two year certifications and the Bloodborne Pathogen certification must be renewed each year. In order to participate in this class you must pass a pre-course which consists of a 300 yard continuous swim using front crawl and/or breaststroke, tread water for two minutes using only your legs, and a timed event which includes swimming 20 yards, picking up a 10 lb brick from the bottom of 7-10 feet of water and swimming it back to the side keeping both hands on the brick. The participant MUST attend all class sessions in order to pass.  

American Red Cross Lifeguard Review Ages 15 Yrs +   

This class will re-certify the participant in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, Oxygen Administration, and Bloodborne Pathogen Training. The Lifeguard, First Aid, CPR-PR, and Oxygen Administration are two year certifications and the Bloodborne Pathogen certification must be renewed each year. In order to participate in this class you must pass a pre-course which consists of a 300 yard continuous swim using front crawl and/or breaststroke, tread water for two minutes using only your legs, and a timed event which includes swimming 20 yards, picking up a 10 lb brick from the bottom of 7-10 feet of water and swimming it back to the side keeping both hands on the brick. The participant MUST attend all class sessions in order to pass. ALL JCC LIFEGUARDS ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND EVERY YEAR.

American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification Ages 16 Yrs +  

The purpose of this instructor course is to train instructor candidates to teach courses and presentations in the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program including Parent and Child Aquatics, Preschool Aquatics, Learn -to- Swim, Adult Swim, Private Lessons, Water Safety Courses (including Safety Training for Swim Coaches*) and Water Safety Presentations. In order to participate in this class you must pass a pre-course which consists of performing the following swimming skills to a Level 4 ability: 25 yards of Front Crawl, Back Crawl, Breaststroke, Elementary Backstroke, and Sidestroke. 15 yards of Butterfly, maintain position on back for 1 minute in deep water (floating or sculling), and tread water for 1 minute. The participant MUST attend all class sessions in order to pass.

 American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification Ages 17 Yrs + 

The objective is to train instructor candidates to teach Lifeguard Training (including First Aid), CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Lifeguard Management, AED Essentials, Oxygen Administration for the Professional Rescuer, Preventing Disease Transmission, Community Water Safety and Basic Water Rescue. The training prepares instructor candidates by developing their understanding of how to use the course materials and methods, how to conduct training sessions and how to evaluate participants' progress. Prerequisites:

Must be able to pass prerequisites for American Red Cross Lifeguard course and be at least 17 years of age by the last scheduled session of the instructor course.  The participant MUST attend all class sessions in order to pass.
