J-LEAD APPLICATION       DATES & TIMES OF SESSIONS        PAYMENT PLAN

 

Introduction:

J-LEAD is Austin's Jewish Leadership Development Program for professionals who are up to 45 years old. Developed by the Jewish Federation of Greater Austin originally in collaboration with Leadership Austin, the program is designed to train Jewish leaders for both today and tomorrow. For 4 months you will be challenged and engaged with 30 of your peers in interactive sessions with dynamic leaders and trainers in the Austin community. If you consider yourself someone who wants to be part of the future Jewish leadership of Austin, if you want it invest in both your development and the communities, then this elite program is for you.

Program Description:

The program will consist of eight evening programs, plus an overnight opening retreat. Each event is designed to be highly interactive, group discussion, and hands-on exercises to keep participants engaged. As a participant in this program, you will further develop your personal and community leadership skills and knowledge of the Jewish communal structure as it exists today through this series of dynamic sessions.

You will learn how to:

•    develop a deeper understanding of your own personal values, and how they integrate with Jewish community values.
•    apply your values to a committed life of service, while still balancing work, family and more.
•    lead productive groups, especially in a community or volunteer capacity.
•    integrate Jewish leadership principles with your own personal practices and value system.
•    navigate the JCAA, the Austin Jewish community and the Jewish world.
•    build leadership skills to move our community forward. You will be exposed to our communal needs, challenges, goals and how you can be part of its future.
•    create a larger network of people within the Jewish community to enjoy as well as help strengthen Jewish life in Austin.

Ideal candidates for J-LEAD Austin are Jewish individuals or couples who meet the following qualifications:
• Applicant is highly motivated to serve the Jewish community and has a passion for making a difference
• Applicant is 45 or under at the time of the application deadline.
• Applicant has at least two years of employment experience (full time, part time or the equivalent).
• Applicant expects to remain in Austin for the next five years unless unforeseen circumstances arise

Expectations of the Participants:

Selected applicants will be expected to meet the following commitment:
• Applicant is able to commit the time necessary to complete the program by attending the retreat and all
eight program sessions (details above) and the Shabbat dinner (TBD).
• Arrive on time and attend the entirety of each session
• Make a gift to the Jewish Federation of Greater Austin Annual Campaign 
• Attendance and/or participation at one of the following events:
Mosaic, Momentum or Milestone Young Adult Division Campaign Dinner 
• Will continue some type of involvement in the Austin Jewish Community
• Will be responsive to requests for feedback on the program

Dates,Times and Locations:

J-LEAD Austin consists of a retreat and eight bi-weekly sessions (held on Tuesday evenings).

Session Timeline each Wednesday:

6:00 -6:30 PM - Light dinner provided (please arrive no later than 6:30 PM)
6:30 – 9:30 PM - Program

Tuition:

Tuition for the J-LEAD Austin program is $350 and can be paid in full at the start of the program or through installments.. This program is to help cover the costs of the retreat, meals, supplies, etc. True program costs are subsidized by the Jewish Community Association of Austin and the Jewish Federation of Greater Austin Annual Campaign. Once accepted into the program payment options are available online.

Faculty:

Dana Baruch is a Past Chair of the JCAA Board of Directors  of the Jewish Community Association of Austin, the founder of the Austin Jewish Academy, life-coach, educator and an organizational consultant. She received her M.Ed. from Tufts and her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Michigan. Dana taught Education, Child Development and Parenting courses at several colleges, prior to moving to Austin. She is a 15-year veteran teacher in Austin's Florence Melton School for Adult Jewish Learning, and a co-creator and educator for the J-LEAD program.  Dana's typical coaching clients are adults who are seeking to make positive shifts in their lives, whether related to school, career, relationships, family and parenting challenges. Her consulting work includes includes educational and organizational institutions: Urban Roots in Austin,  Schusterman Center for Jewish Studies at UT Austin, Austin Jewish Academy,  Charles H. Revson Foundation Heritage Civilization and the Jews project,  KIVUNIM-The Institute of Experiential Learning for Israel and World Jewish Communities Studies, among others.  Currently, Dana's board and advisory council work includes JCAA, Schusterman Center for Jewish Studies, and Challah for Hunger. Dana is married to Mike Krell and the proud mother of two young adults sons-Jacob and Noah.
